Seven Things You Can Do To Help Save The Planet
Green Tourism and its members are working to make Ireland & the UK a more eco-friendly destination, but we need your help. We can all reduce our impact on the environment by making choices. As visitor you have a very important role to play in helping us to conserve our natural assets and become a more sustainable destination.
Here are our recommended tips on how you can help:
Conserve Energy
Reduce energy by switching off lights, ensure the heater is on timer, and close the windows. The Energy Saving Trust provides information on what you can do at home. www.energysavingtrust.org.uk
Give the Car a Rest
Leave the car behind, if only for a day. Walk, cycle, bus tour or use public transport. Information in this pack but we will be happy to provide you with advice. I have negotiated a discount for my residents for local bike hire in Finnegan’s Henry St. – email - jp37@eircom.net/www.kenmaretours.com

Shop Local
Use local products, they give you a flavour of the area and help support local communities. We are fortunate to have some fantastic producers of food and arts and crafts. Our market is on in the Square on Wednesday and in the summer on Fridays. There is a Co-Operative shop in Bridge St. and Wholefood Shop i.e. The Pantry on Henry St.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Try to avoid overly packaged goods, use our eco-bags in the drawer, and please return for the next guest. You can also support the destination and businesses in their efforts by using recycling facilities. Leave any recyclable items in a bag in your room and we will recycle it for you in our own facility. Alternatively, guests can use the recycling banks by the Kerry Co-Op shop or at Mac’s Filling Station, Killowen Rd. There is also a large recycling centre on the Mart Road, follow the signs off the Killarney Road to Moll’s Gap.
Be Water Wise
Ireland has rising costs for water treatment so please use water wisely. Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and adhere to towel policies. We use a water butt to rinse our mops and water our plants.
Respect Nature
Help us to look after the landscape and wildlife by not littering, guarding against fire and using footpaths and cycle-ways responsibly.
Support Green Businesses
There are a growing number of businesses in Ireland (e.g. Jury’s Inn Hotels) and thousands in the British Isles working to reduce their carbon footprint through the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Choose green accommodation when you are booking your holiday.
